Legendary Pictures has registered the wordmark "DUNE" and a graphic trademark of the movie character in the U.S., covering a full range of cultural and creative products including apparel, posters, figurines, mugs, and canvas bags. Thousands of cross-border sellers are accused of printing Dune character images and the movie title on their own, selling movie merchandise at low prices without official IP commercial authorization.
The platforms, in compliance with the court's order, have removed tens of thousands of infringing product links with a single click and frozen the withdrawal privileges of all involved stores. Industry data shows that trademark infringement cases involving film and game IPs are increasing by 80% annually; sellers cannot arbitrarily use movie titles and character trademarks for cross-border merchandise sales simply because a film is popular.
