British police, in conjunction with TikTok, busted a livestreaming counterfeit goods ring, with the counterfeiting of sportswear brands constituting a trademark offense.

The UK Intellectual Property Office, in conjunction with London police and TikTok UK, launched a special operation to crack down on counterfeit goods sold via cross-border live-streaming e-commerce. The operation successfully dismantled a large-scale counterfeit live-streaming ring operated by Chinese nationals, permanently banning dozens of TikTok live-streaming accounts, seizing goods worth £1.2 million, and arresting all operators who have been transferred to criminal prosecution.

This ring set up standardized counterfeit live-streaming studios, completely replicating the backgrounds, host scripts, and product displays of official Nike and Adidas live-streaming studios. They attracted customers with counterfeit sportswear at a low price of £9.99, and shipped it to consumers throughout the UK via international express. The team had a clear division of labor, with dedicated personnel responsible for sourcing, live-streaming operations, warehousing, and after-sales service, forming a complete infringement supply chain.

UK judicial authorities stated that the large-scale cross-border production and sale of counterfeit registered trademark goods exceeds the scope of civil infringement and constitutes a criminal offense of counterfeiting registered trademarks. Those involved will face imprisonment and hefty fines, and all infringing inventory was destroyed. TikTok has also updated its European live-streaming compliance regulations, strictly prohibiting the use of unauthorized brand trademarks in live-streaming footage and short video materials.
